Dax started as a folder of shell scripts I was embarrassed by. Every one of them existed because I had hit the same five seconds of friction for the hundredth time — a command I could not remember, a screenshot I needed somewhere a model could see it, a folder I wanted to hand to an agent in one paste. I was not trying to build a product. I was trying to stop being annoyed.
That turns out to be the best product brief I have ever worked from. There is no persona to imagine and no user research to misread: I am the user, I use it every day, and I notice immediately when something is wrong. So I am building it properly — menu bar, global shortcuts, signed and notarized — and shipping it soon. If it makes my day better, it will probably make yours better too.
