Becoming an official contributor to OpenClaw was not a decision so much as an accumulation. I had been using it daily, hitting the same rough edge, and eventually the cost of writing the fix dropped below the cost of continuing to work around it. I opened the pull request half-expecting silence. It got reviewed, argued over, improved, and merged.
That loop is addictive in a way I did not anticipate. Contributing to a tool you use every day means your own leverage goes up every time you help — you are not doing charity, you are sharpening the thing already in your hand. A year in, the patches are bigger and the conversations are better, and I understand the system far more deeply than any amount of reading the docs would have taught me.
